Data integration software provider, Informatica, has
offered tips for businesses that want to reduce costs using master
data management (MDM).
MDM is the use of tools to organise master data, which is any
information that is crucial to the running of the business, for
example, employee or customer details.
The company suggests that businesses should reduce
superfluous data acquisition, such as when a department sources
information that has already been obtained by another part of the
firm.
MDM can automatically avoid duplicate acquisitions when it is
integrated directly into the system.
Data clean-up costs can be reduced by cleansing all
information at once across the system of MDM rather than carrying
it out individually, application by application.
Integration is key to the success of MDM as it streamlines
processes that makes sure that unnecessary tasks are not carried
out, which in turn reduces costs.
"Multi-domain MDM ensures that business-critical data is
reliable and related before it is consumed by internal or external
business processes, applications and users making IT more
efficient," said Keith Jaslow, principal technical consultant at
Informatica.
